Professor Emeritus Richard James along with medical glove makers Hartalega Malaysia and Chemical Intelligence, the R & D Company in the UK, has revealed that these new medical gloves would be the first non-leaching antimicrobial gloves in the world, in order to prevent the spread of infections. Amanda Hao An unwanted pregnancy was the key risk faced by some U.S. women when they were given a sample package of an Allergan  birth control  pharmaceutical drugs . A voluntary nationwide recall of 168,768 physician sample packs of Taytulla capsules was issued by the Dublin-based drug maker. The action came in the wake of a discovery by a physician of a package in which four non-hormonal placebo capsules replaced active capsules in the first four days of therapy. According to the recall notice, a Taytulla pill pack is a 28-count blister card having 24 “active” oink softgel capsules, ones with hormones, followed by 4 maroon softgel capsules not having hormones. With an expiry date of May 2019, the packages are from lot #5620706. The packaging error may lead to taking the capsules out of sequence and placing the user at risk of unintended pregnancy and contraceptive failure. A team of scientists from the Alabama University has discovered that blood stored for longer durations may be less safe for patients suffering from  severe blood loss  and shock. In the cases of severely injured patients with excessive bleeding, the need of the hour would be a blood transfusion. But if older stored blood were to be used, it could lead to life-threatening symptoms such as pneumonia, dysfunction in blood flow, and an increased inflammation in organs.  The research team found a link between older stored blood transfusion and subsequent bacterial pneumonia. Stored blood transfusion releases the inflammation mediator HMGB1, which is a part of the body's immune response. Heme is a part of hemoglobin pigment, which gives red blood cells their red color. New Delhi: National Information for Transforming India (policy think tank of the government of India) (NITI AAYOG), yesterday held a meeting to improve the production of the  medical device products  in India, the experts conducted the meeting to estimate on tax-based incentives and caps on distributor and retailer margins of medical devices products. The meeting was attended by senior government officials from different ministries as well as industry representatives. Niti Aayog is focusing on proposals to encourage domestic manufacturing of  medical device products  following orders from the Prime Minister's Office, said the expert. The meeting was focused on identifying the problems in local manufacturing and quality of the devices produced in India and also to spot the solution for the issues.
